Description
The Cock of Barton Inn is a 17th-century inn that has been altered and extended at the rear. The front features oak small framing with recessed plaster panels, while the left end is made of red sandstone coursed rubble and the right end and rear are constructed of brick. The front has a coursed red sandstone plinth and is topped with steep grey slate roofs. The building is two storeys high with two windows, including a left cross-wing, and a one-storey right wing with an attic. The entrance door is made of six oak boards, and the original leaded casements have been replaced. A large projecting lateral chimney of red sandstone is located on the cross-wing, topped with an ornate 19th-century brick stack typical of the Carden Estate. There are also decorative brick chimneys on the right and rear gables of the main wing, and a plain brick gable chimney on the right wing. The bargeboards are plain, featuring five-pointed wood finials in the Carden Estate style. At the rear, there is a single-storey extension from the late 20th century. The oak frame of the inn has been heavily restored, and the interior has been significantly altered, with reused oak timbers.
