Description

This is a gate and gatepiers located approximately 120 yards south of Portal, dating from the 18th century, with the gatepiers added around 1904. The gatepiers are made of red sandstone ashlar and support a wrought iron gate. There are two piers flanking a central pedestrian gate, featuring arrowhead dog rails and Fleur-de-lys finials on the lock rail. Each side has decorative panels with C-scrolls below and S-scrolls above, and the square piers have moulded caps topped with ball finials.
