Description
The former goods shed, located 20 meters north of the Old Station, was built around 1900 for the London and North Western Railway (LNWR). It is now used as a lorry maintenance bay. The building features weatherboarding, a Lakeland green slate roof, and a partly glazed roof. It has one octagonal brick chimney with stone dressings. The rectangular structure has canopies that extend from each long side, which were previously over a siding and are adorned with a fringe of tongued wooden pieces. Behind the canopies, there are pairs of large sliding wooden doors at platform level. The north side includes a pair of hinged doors, while the south end has a small access door that is approached by steps. Inside, there is a single large room with an office in one corner, supported by kingpost roof trusses. This building is an unusually well-preserved and rare example of a local goods shed, which were once common.
