Description

A detached suburban house, dating from the mid-19th century, now converted into two flats. The house is constructed of Flemish bond brown brick with a hipped grey slate roof. It features a simple plinth and a portico with double doors consisting of two fielded panels and a one-pane overlight, set within a pilastered round-arched case. Small round-arched windows are visible in each return wall of the portico, and there are four-pane sashes to either side of the entrance. An architrave, frieze, and dentil cornice adorn the portico. A balcony rail has been replaced. The first floor has a sill band, and what were likely originally double eight-pane French windows with an overlight, now two-pane windows, are positioned above the portico. Additional four-pane sashes in architraves are located on either side. Boldly projecting boxed eaves are supported by brackets, featuring a frieze and cornice. The sides and rear of the house exhibit similar detailing to the front. A full-length cast-iron verandah, complete with lattice posts, a frieze, scroll brackets, and a hipped slate roof, is located on the right side. Chimneys with stone cornices are present at the left end of the house and on the front right of the entrance. Internally, the stair was replaced during the conversion to flats. Remaining features include panelled embrasures, some plaster wall panels, and a good ceiling in the principal room on the right side. The doors are panelled with four panels each. The upper flat has not been inspected.
