Description
This is a detached suburban house built in 1905. Constructed of orange-brown and red brick with plaster panels, it features a red clay-tile roof and is designed in a Free Vernacular Revival style. The house is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay facade. A two-storey porch is supported by Roman Doric stone columns. The windows are fitted with leaded glazing, with many lights featuring a central elliptical pane. To the left of the porch is a one-storey canted bay window with seven lights and a lean-to tile roof. A brick-mullioned five-light casement window is situated to the right of the porch. The upper storey has close studding with tension braces and shaped panels under the casements. A five-light oriel window is above the porch room, while a four-light casement window projects from the wall face of each wing. The gable above the porch bay is boldly jettied and decorated with bargeboards carved with vine and grapes. Shaped chimneys are also present. A small gabled inglenook wing is located at the right end of the house, and a carved datemark is incorporated into the design. The interior features exposed beams and joists, two-panel doors, timber pilastered doorcases to the main rooms, a tiled fireplace with an oak surround and fireside windows in the inglenook, panelled archways, and a dogleg oak staircase with vase splat balusters.
