Description

A pair of suburban houses dating from the 1850s, located on Hough Green. The houses are built of Flemish bond brown brick with cream headers and white-painted stone dressings, and have hipped grey slate roofs. They are constructed in an Italianate style, forming an "H" shape with a five-arched loggia between the projecting end bays. The loggia features chamfered piers, moulded architraves to the round arches, and ornate keystones. Front doors are set behind archways within the loggia. The ground floor has part-glazed doors and a single-storey canted bay window of 2:4:2 panes to each wing. Windows are fitted with moulded architraves. The central archway of the loggia has paired arched 2-pane sashes above. A moulded first-floor string runs around the building. There is a low parapet to a balcony above the loggia, paired round-arched sashes of 2 panes to the first floor of each wing and at the centre, and rectangular sashes above the doors. A boldly projecting eaves-cornice with a one-course parapet tops the structure. Each end has a round-arched sash window to the first floor. Brick chimneys with moulded stone caps and cream pots are likely original. The rear of the building and the interior have not been inspected.
