Description
The war memorial located in the south part of Overleigh Cemetery was erected to honor those who fell in the Great War from 1914 to 1919. It is made of white stone and features a base with two octagonal steps, an inscribed plinth, and a cross topped with a downward-pointing sword of justice in bronze. The total height of the memorial is approximately 5 meters. The inscription is in Roman capitals and reads: "THIS CROSS OF SACRIFICE IS ONE IN DESIGN AND INTENTION WITH THOSE WHICH HAVE BEEN SET UP IN FRANCE AND BELGIUM AND OTHER PLACES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD WHERE OUR DEAD OF THE GREAT WAR ARE LAID TO REST: THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." The memorial is situated at the junction of the drives from Overleigh Road and the two mortuary chapels of the cemetery.
