Description

Cherry Cottage is a cottage and shippon dating from the later 18th century, with a shippon added in the early 19th century and some later alterations. It is constructed of washed, tooled red sandstone blocks with a Welsh slate roof and a brick ridge chimney. The buildings form a single range and have a 1 1/2-storey, 4-bay north front. The left end and third bay feature 2-light casement windows with glazing bars, with the upper windows set in gabled half dormers. A door in a rebated wooden frame is centrally positioned. The right end bay is a 2-stall shippon, with a split board door below and a square pitch hole above. A brick lean-to has been added against the right end.

The interior retains its original plan, featuring a small porch leading to rooms on either side of a central fireplace. The main room has a heavy ceiling beam with exposed sawn joists. The central fireplace contains a Victorian range set within a stone surround.
