Description

The fountain in front of the school, dated 1862 for Robert Barbour, is made of red sandstone and designed in the Gothic style. It has a rectangular shape with two gable ends and a blocked well in between. The south face features end buttresses inscribed with "RB 1862" and a coped and finialled gable that displays the Barbour arms. Above the fountain, there is a Gothic arch with a worn inscription that reads, "WHETHER YE EAT OR DRINK, WHATSOEVER YE DO, DO ALL TO THE GLORY OF GOD." The fountain is flanked by lower canted wing walls that support quatrefoil panelled railings on either side. This structure is listed for its group value only.
