Description
The building is a school and schoolmaster's house, dated 1868 for Robert Barbour. It is constructed from ashlar red sandstone and features a Welsh slate roof with three stone chimneys. The plan is H-shaped, with a front that has one and two storeys and five bays. The left end bay serves as the school room, which has three tall lancet windows with glazing bars and a clock set in a Gothick architrave beneath a square wooden bellcote topped with a tall pyramidal lead roof on the ridge. The second bay includes a gabled porch with a shouldered entrance flanked by columns with stiff-leaf capitals, and above this are the date and Barbour arms. The central part of the building is one storey high, featuring shouldered lintels over a door and windows, along with two added dormers. The right end bay, which is under a gable, has a bay window below and a large light above. The schoolroom bays on the left are divided by buttresses. The building is listed for its group value only.
