Description
The Church of All Saints is a Grade II* listed building, dated 1609, with a bell turret added in 1862 during restoration and the addition of a vestry. It is constructed of red and buff sandstone ashlar with a Welsh slate roof and a stone ridge. The church features a 5-bay nave and chancel in one range, along with a south porch and vestry. The gabled porch has a shouldered 4-centred arched entrance that includes an inscription. The nave bays are divided by weak buttresses and contain rectangular mullioned windows with round-headed lights. There is a blocked priest's door in the right end bay. The east window is a 6-light mullioned and transomed window with round-headed lights, set under a weak label mould. The west end has two 2-light Victorian windows and an open octagonal bell turret on the ridge topped with a tall pyramidal stone roof. Inside, the church has a simple design featuring a hammerbeam roof with carved brackets that include heraldic bosses. A simple chancel screen, supported by six wooden piers, bears the inscription "This church as builded upon the Devoc'on of the Cuntrye, by the labor and travell of Ed. Tanat, Jo. Dodd, Tho Buckley, Gra. Weston P aº 1609," although the beam it is painted on is strictly classical in style.
