Description
Lowerhill Farmhouse is a former farmhouse and shippon that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with an 18th-century stone extension and brickwork from the 19th century, along with 20th-century restoration. The building features a partly timber-framed structure on a stone plinth, as well as partly washed sandstone blocks. The current plan is L-shaped, with a 1.5-storey, 6-bay front. The left three bays have tall small frames and 20th-century casements, with the upper ones set in gabled half dormers, flanking a door that is sheltered by a lean-to hood. The stone section, which was formerly the shippon, has a similar layout. There are remains of a passing brace in the left gable. Inside, the timber frame is intact, featuring an ashlar central fireplace with a central niche that is now concealed by a modern fireplace, along with a chamfered firebeam and ceiling beam.
