Description
Pepper Street is a building that was originally a farmhouse and later converted into three cottages, now functioning as a single house. It dates back to the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 18th century. The structure is timber framed with plastered infill set on a stone base, topped with a Marley tile roof and featuring two brick chimneys at the ridge. The building has a lobby entry plan and is two stories high with a six-bay south front. The façade includes twenty small regular frames with angle braces at the corners, and features two- and three-light small casement windows, most of which have glazing bars. The original doorway is centrally located and consists of a flat four-panelled door with iron strap hinges, with similar doorways added at either end. There are brick lean-tos at both ends and at the rear of the building.
Inside, the entry leads into a lobby with a hall to the left. The hall features a chamfered ceiling beam and a chamfered bressumer. To the right, the parlour has a chamfered ceiling beam with jewelled stops and contains two 18th-century three-board doors with iron strap hinges. The roof structure was lost in a fire in 1953.
