Description
Smithy House Farmhouse, now a house, dates to the 17th century. It is timber-framed with brick infill, set on a brick plinth, and has a plain tile roof. Originally a single-storey building with an attic, it now has two storeys. The front elevation features eleven bays by three cells of uneven timber framing, with an angle brace on the left. A gabled timber porch, supported on brackets, sits above the doorway located to the right of centre. Three-light casement windows, dating to the 20th century, are positioned on either side of the door. The roof height was raised in the 19th or 20th century, and an additional row of cells was added. The first floor also has three-light casement windows, also 20th century, each with a cambered head. A ridge chimney stack is situated to the right. A projecting gabled brick wing, dating to the 19th century, is on the right side, featuring three-light casement windows on both floors. The left-hand gable end displays six bays by two cells of timber framing, with angle braces and a queen post gable truss, featuring uprights and a V-strut to the apex. The rear has a 20th-century gabled outshut on the left, and to the right, seven bays by two cells of timber framing, with an added row of cells above. Internally, the building has chamfered ceiling beams and small-framed interior walling.
