Description

Kynsal Lodge is a small country house dating to around 1850, designed by Thomas Baker of Highfield. It is constructed of red Flemish bond brick with painted ashlar dressings and a slate roof with lead flashings. The entrance front features a slightly projecting gabled bay to the right and a central projection containing a ground floor window of three 5-pane sashes, set within an ashlar plinth that runs throughout the building. The window above has three 4-pane sashes and sits above a stone band, also continuous. A pedimental gable sits above this. A porch with raised ashlar square columns and a half-glazed 19th-century door with an overlight is located to the left of the entrance. A projecting bay to the left has a ground floor window matching the central one. The first-floor windows on this side are similar. A later, single-storey addition of the 19th century is attached to the left, featuring a slightly projecting central bay with a shallow pediment and three windows, each with three 5-pane sashes falling to sill level and with flat arched heads. The rear is similar to the entrance front, with a projecting gabled wing on the right and two bays to the left, the one furthest to the left being slightly projecting. The central bay has a window of three 5-pane sashes and the left-hand bay has a tripartite window with a central light of three 5-pane sashes and one 5-pane sash to either side. Two later 19th-century bays, built with a deeper shade of brick, are located to the right, with two ground floor windows of three 6-pane sashes and two first floor windows of three 4-pane sashes.
