Description
This is a stable block, dating from around 1850, designed by Thomas Baker of Highfield. It is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern with a slate roof. The building has a single and two-story height and an open courtyard plan. The front of the courtyard features a central two-story spinal range leading towards the rear, with gabled single-story wings on either side. A slightly projecting central bay provides a wide basket-arched entrance on the ground floor, with gauged brick voussoirs framing a central door, flanked by single-light windows. Above the entrance is a loft door with a gable topped by a weather vane. Ground floor windows to either side are two-light casements with stone sills and flat-arched brick lintels. The first floor has cross windows at the left and a loft door and cross window to the right. The single-story wing on the right features four basket-arched carriage doorways, also with gauged brick voussoirs. The building is included on the list for its group value.
