Description

The icehouse in Endon Hall Garden was built around 1840 for William Clayton. It is constructed from coursed buff sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings. Access is provided by a flight of steps that is flanked by revetment walls topped with rounded coping. The icehouse itself is positioned at right angles to the steps and features a door with a plain stone surround. Inside, there is a low segmental vault over a central passage, which is flanked by two large troughs made of stone flags, and the floor is also stone flagged.
