Description
Elder and Barn Cottages are a pair of houses that likely started as a single farmhouse, dating from the 17th century. The cottages are timber framed with whitewashed brick infill and feature a plain tile roof. They are two storeys high.
The entrance front has a high plinth that supports 17 cells of uneven small framing, with angle braces on the sixth upright from the left. To the left of this post, there is a blocked doorway with a cambered lintel that contains a single light 20th-century window. There are two additional 19th-century doorways on either side of the centre, each with gabled porches.
On the ground floor, there is one 3-light and three 2-light casement windows. The first floor features one 3-light and one 2-light gabled dormer casement, along with a central 4-light raking dormer window that has a central king mullion, marking the division between the two houses.
