Description

A pair of small houses dating from the 17th to 18th centuries, with alterations made in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The timber frame of the left-hand cottage survives, but it is hidden behind colourwashed render and a lean-to addition. The front of the cottages was rebuilt using flint with brick dressings. The roof is tiled, with a central brick chimney.

The cottages are two storeys high and two bays wide. They have barred wooden casement windows; the left bay features a fixed window in a blocked doorway, a three-light casement on the ground floor to the right, a two-light casement above, and a 20th-century door within a lean-to on the left. The right bay includes a two-light casement with a segmental head on the ground floor, a three-light casement in the gable above, and a 20th-century door set within a gabled porch to its left. The cottages were extended one bay to the right in the 19th century using red brick. A small rear wing on the left-hand side is dated 1766 in brick. Further 20th-century extensions have been added to the rear. Inside, there is a winder staircase aligned with the central stack. The cottages are included on the list for their group value.
