Description
Nos. 1 and 2 Barn Cottages are two dwellings that were originally a house built in the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the early 20th century. The ground floor features painted brick on the left side and roughcast on timber-framing on the right side, while the upper part has early 20th-century false timber-framing with rendered panels. The roof is thatched, with a brick ridge stack located to the right of the center and an end stack on the left. The building likely follows a three-unit lobby-entry plan and is single storey with an attic, presenting a four-window range. There are four-panel part-glazed doors to the left and right of the center, and the ground floor has three-light wood casements, except for a single-light casement to the right of the center. Two half-dormers on the left have old plain-tile gabled roofs, and there is a three-light casement under the eaves to the right of the center, along with a three-light dormer to the right. Inside, there are chamfered spine beams with bar stops and an open fireplace located to the right of the center. The roof structure features queen-post construction.
