Description

Barn Cottage is likely a mid-17th century stable building, later converted into a house, with alterations in the 20th century. The exterior is constructed from limestone rubble with a limestone plinth; the ground floor is of coursed squared limestone, while the first floor has rectangular timber framing with brick infill, some laid in a herringbone pattern. The roof is of old plain tiles, hipped in style, with a 20th-century brick stack located to the left of the centre. The cottage is two storeys high, with a seven-window range at a right angle to the street. A 20th-century ribbed door is in the centre, alongside a 20th-century casement window with a brick surround to the right. Six-pane windows are located on the first floor, except for a three-light wooden casement to the right of the centre. The left and right returns, and the rear, are of coursed squared limestone with 20th-century windows. A 20th-century straight flight of stairs is present. Internally, the roof is a queen-strut design.
