Description
The forecourt wall and gateway of Wright's Almshouses were built by the Trustees in 1667. The structure features a low wall made of red brick that runs along the pavement's edge, topped with a moulded stone coping. At the center, there is an impressive gateway consisting of a stone screen with a segmental arch, flanked by columns on pedestals, an entablature, moulded Jacobean coping, and large side scrolls, one of which has been restored. The structure was noted to be in urgent need of repair at the time of inspection and is included in a proposal for the dismantling of the almshouses and their re-erection by Crewe's Almshouses in Beam Street.
