Description

Crewe’s Almshouses, dated 1767, is a row of seven houses built of red brick with two storeys. The central projection features a pediment with a circular panel, a stone cornice with small plain consoles, and a hipped slate roof. There are twelve sash windows, each with stone lintels, keyblocks, and sills. Six simple doorways are set within plain stone surrounds. A central, six-panelled door has an arched fanlight and keyblock, and is framed by a stone surround featuring three-quarter columns, side windows, pilasters, an entablature, and a pediment above. A central stone tablet bears a carved inscription, with the date positioned above it. The almshouses were restored in 1975-76.
