Description

The Old School at the rear of Number 65 (Sweetbriar Hall) dates from around 1701. It is built of red brick and has two storeys. The building features two sash windows, with the left window having two lights. There is a moulded wood doorcase topped with a pedimental weather-hood, leading to a six-panelled fielded door. The eaves are toothed, and the roof is hipped and covered with slate. Inside, the upper room retains its original plain fireplace. This building was once the home of Joseph Priestley, the discoverer of oxygen, but it has been long unoccupied and is now in a dilapidated state.
