Description
Stanley Hall is a late 16th-century farmhouse with alterations from the 19th century. The original timber frame is now concealed or has been replaced by walls constructed of whitewashed rendered sandstone rubble, with painted imitation timber framing applied to the exterior. The roof is covered with Kerridge stone-slate tiles, and there are two gable chimneys made of brick. The front facade is slightly asymmetrical, featuring two stories and three bays, with sash windows that lack glazing bars and are set in plain reveals. A plain stone doorcase frames a repaired four-panelled door. The gable to the right displays exposed ends of the large purlins and ridge. A smaller extension connects the house to a barn on the left, and an 18th-century addition exists at the rear. Internally, very little of the original timber frame remains. Three tie beams are present, one slightly cambered, each with clusters of four bead moulds at the lower corners. The roof trusses include short diagonal struts to the through purlins. Several early 18th-century four-board doors are also present.
