Description
Caldecott Farm House is an early 17th-century farmhouse that has been substantially altered and is now characteristic of the early 19th century. The house is constructed of whitewashed brickwork with brick nogged timber framing, and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high with three bays, and a single-storey, two-bay rear wing extends to the north-east, forming an āLā shaped plan. The rear (east) elevation retains timbers in small framing, with angle braces, and brick above the original wall plate. This brickwork indicates that the roof slope was flattened when slates replaced thatch. The front (west) elevation is of brick, with two-light casement windows with glazing bars, set beneath segmental arches on the ground floor. Pitched half-dormers with timbered gables contain windows at the first floor level. A boarded door with a glazed panel is located within a gabled, slated porch, supported by six wood posts resting on half-height brick walls. The interior features bevelled beams and exposed large section joists.
