Description

This is a farmhouse with origins in the early 17th century, substantially remodelled in the early 19th century. The farmhouse is built with a timber frame, nogged with brick in a Flemish bond pattern, and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high and consists of five bays, including the timber-framed gable facing southeast. The timber frame of the gable displays close studding with a substantial middle rail and heavy timbers. The first-floor bressumer, a large horizontal beam, has dentils along its lower edge. Three shaped studs, in a Jacobean style, are located below the first-floor window, and strapwork-carved consoles sit below the projecting wallplate ends, which support the gable bressumer. The windows in the gable and the brick west wing are mainly flush casements with glazing bars. The entrance door, situated in the west wing, is a four-panel door within a casing and is flanked by hexagonal bays featuring glazing bars, projecting timber cornices, and flat roofs. A sawtooth course runs along the eaves of the roof of the west wing. The interior of the farmhouse has been altered; original timber beams are now cased, so there are no visible features of interest.
