Description

The Macclesfield Canal Bridge Number 40 at Windmill Lane is a road bridge built in 1831, designed by engineer William Crosley. It is constructed from roughly coursed and squared rubble, using smaller blocks above a string course. The bridge features a steep-sided segmental archway with voussoirs and a keystone. The raking parapet is designed to accommodate the steep slope of the road bed. Additional architectural details include a string course, stone copings, and projecting terminal piers.
