Description

Canal bridge number 23, located 250 metres west of Winterford Farm, was built around 1830 by William Crosley for the Macclesfield Canal Company. It features a horseshoe-shaped elliptical arch with a chamfered coping at road level. The bridge has a plain parapet with rounded coping ends that terminate in square pilasters. This bridge is a standard design for the canal, although it is wider than others. There are six other complete examples of this type in Adlington.
