Description
The National Westminster Bank, located at 28 High Street, was built around 1900 in the Baroque style. It features red brick construction with stone dressings and stands three storeys tall. The facade includes four sash windows without glazing bars, each set in panelled stone surrounds topped with arched pediments supported by consoles. There are moulded bands across the building, and the modern stone bank front is designed to be sympathetic to the original style, featuring Ionic half-column pilasters. The eaves cornice is made of dentilled wood and is adorned with elaborate foliated brackets. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 12, 16, 18A, 18, 20, 20A, and Nos 22 to 28 (even).
