Description
Nos 42 and 44 on High Street are 16th to 17th century buildings constructed with a timber frame and plaster infilling, featuring a painted black and white exterior. They stand two storeys high with an attic and have two gables facing the street, which are adorned with restored barge boards. The attics overhang and are supported by carved corbels. On the first storey, there are two 19th century canted bay windows with leaded lights. The roofs are covered with slates, and the shop fronts, dating from the late 19th century, have modern window designs. These buildings were likely constructed after the Great Fire of 1583. Nos 42 to 52 (even) are recognized as a group.
