Description
No 18 on High Street is a building dating from the 16th to 17th century. It features a timber frame and is painted in black and white plaster. The building has undergone significant restoration. It has a gabled end facing the street and stands three storeys tall, with two slight overhangs and an original bressummer at the second floor. The structure includes carved brackets adorned with animal motifs. There is a 19th-century 12-light wood mullioned and transomed window, along with a 19th-century canted oriel window on the second storey. The shop fronts are modern. This building was likely constructed after the Great Fire of 1583. It is part of a group that includes Nos 12, 16, 18A, 18, 20, 20A, and Nos 22 to 28 (even).
