Description

This is a canal milestone dating from around 1830, created for the Macclesfield Canal Company. It is made of ashlar sandstone, with a shaped top and tooled sides. The north face of the milestone is inscribed with "From/Hall Green/11 1/4 Miles," while the south face reads "From/Marple/15 Miles." This milestone is part of a notable series of milestones and distance markers, as well as bridges, along the Macclesfield Canal.
