Description

Old Crowholt Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1663, as indicated by a datestone. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and has a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic and features a central projecting wing with ashlar quoins. The ground and first floors have 20th-century three-light windows, while the attic has a two-light window. The left side of the projecting wing includes a 20th-century half-glazed door on the ground floor and a circular window on the first floor, both set in a large ashlar stone. There is a single-storey 20th-century addition to the right. The left gable end has a 20th-century chimney breast at the centre, with a two-light stone-surrounded, chamfered, mullioned window to the left and two single-light attic windows in the gable. A substantial addition was made to the entrance front in 1973. Inside, the ground floor room features raised and fielded panelling, which includes a frieze of female figures with distended stomachs and volute arms, along with sheaves of fruit and flowers below their skirts. An inscribed panel reading "CHURCH WARDENS SEAT/W.A E.C. C.W. 1686" suggests that the panelling may have originated from another location.
