Description
Bridge Number 50 is a canal accommodation bridge built around 1830, designed by engineer William Crosley. It is constructed from coursed sandstone blocks that become narrower towards the parapet, featuring ashlar dressings. The bridge has a horseshoe elliptical arch made of voussoirs, with a stressed keystone that rises to a chamfered band at deck level. The walling and parapet end in squared piers, and the parapet has coping. Stone steps on the south side lead up to the road or deck level, which has a gate across it. This bridge is part of a series of notable bridges and mileposts along the Macclesfield Canal.
