Description
Bridge Number 52 on the Macclesfield Canal is a canal bridge built around 1830 by engineer William Crosley. It is constructed from coursed sandstone blocks with coursed rubble used for the parapet, and features ashlar dressings. The bridge has a horseshoe elliptical arch made of voussoirs, with a prominent keystone that rises to a chamfered band at deck level. The battered walls end in squared piers, which are currently damaged, and there is coping on the parapet. Notably, the bridge vault displays fine tooling. This bridge is part of a series of impressive bridges and mileposts along the Macclesfield Canal.
