Description
Pear Tree Farmhouse is a farmhouse that is said to date from 1656. It features narrow coursed rubble and a stone slate roof. The building has a two-cell main range with a short cross-wing towards the street, which has a recently rebuilt gable. The farmhouse is two storeys high.
On the ground floor, there are double chamfered stone mullion windows with hoodmoulds, including a 4-light window in the wing, and formerly 4-light and 3-light windows in the main block, although the latter now lacks all mullions. The first floor has two 3-light double chamfered stone mullion windows with heads and hoodmoulds that have a spreading ogee form. There are three doorways with a plain chamfer and round heads, two of which are located in the angle with the cross-wing and are protected by a stone lean-to porch. The rebuilt gable includes another 4-light window at the first floor level. At the rear, there is one 2-light chamfered mullion window. The farmhouse has two chimneys.
Inside the cross-wing, a stone spiral stair was removed in living memory, and it features a heavily pegged king block truss. The main room contains an 18th-century 6-panel door leading to the pantry.
