Description
Chestnut Tree Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with extensions from the 18th century and some alterations made in the 20th century. It features a timber frame set on a stone plinth, with small brick extensions. The roof is made of Kerridge stone slate and has a stone ridge, along with one brick chimney at the ridge. The building has a long rectangular lobby-entry plan and is two stories high with a four-bay east front. The east front has eleven by three timber small frames with arch bracing at the wall plate. It includes two-light casements and, in the second bay, an original timber-framed gabled porch with a bead-moulded doorcase and a three-board door that has iron fishtail hinges. Inside, the entry is against an ashlar baffle with bead-moulded jambs. Similar mouldings are found on the fire and ceiling beams in the main room. There is a cyma-moulded lintel in the room to the left, and the roof structure remains intact, although the trusses are covered with paper. The interior also features one three-board door.
