GV II

Pedestal tomb of James Walker: dated 1843. Square buff sandstone block on moulded plinth has inscribed raised panels. Projecting cross-gabled capstone, with carving in the pediments, supports an urn with a border of acanthus.

The most westerly of the group of 3 pedestal tombs in the garden. All are of Victorian standard type but the inscriptions will be by James Mellor jnr., many of which are long and record the influence of the teachings of Emanuel Swedenborg on this family. Listed for group value only.
