Description

The pedestal tomb of Rachel Mellor, James Mellor Junior, and others is located in the gardens of Hough Hole House. It dates back to 1835 and is made of square sandstone blocks set on a moulded plinth. The tomb features a projecting weathered capstone topped with an urn that is decorated with carved acanthus leaves and garlands. This tomb is one of three large pedestal tombs found in a Swedenborgian graveyard associated with the nearby Chapel. It includes the tomb of the Chapel builder and the carver of all the monuments around Hough Hole House.
