Description

The Literary Institute, built in 1857, is a Grade II listed building designed by the architect Sir George Gilbert Scott. It is constructed in a Gothic style using red brick, with stone dressings and blue brick decorations. The building has two storeys, featuring a central block with three gables, each adorned with two-light Gothic style windows. The ground floor has three windows, each consisting of three lancets grouped under a relieving arch. To the left of the central block is an octagonal two-storey porch with a hipped roof, while to the right is a lower block that includes another entrance. The roof is tiled.
