Description
The Town Hall and Market Hall, built in 1889 and designed by architect Thomas Bower of Nantwich, is a Grade II listed building in Gothic style. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features a façade that showcases two storeys. The central portion consists of four bays, each defined by buttresses and adorned with three-light mullioned windows set in stone surrounds with hood moulds. A string course runs along the first floor, and below it is an open arcaded loggia with four pointed arched openings.
On the right side of the building is a four-stage tower block, which is octagonal at the top and includes a clock face on all four sides. This tower is topped with a pyramidal tiled roof and an open lantern. The entrance below the tower is elaborate, featuring a pointed arched head above a carved stone heraldic panel, flanked by a pair of stone statues that stand high on corbels beneath canopies. To the left is a gabled bay with a four-light stone mullioned and transomed window. The Market Hall, added later, is a plain brick wing with a span roof extending at the rear.
