Description
This is a 17th-century barn located approximately five yards east of Boults Green Farmhouse. It is timber framed with brick infill and has a roof made of plain tiles, slate, and stone slate, although it was originally entirely covered with stone slate. The barn has two storeys.
On the farmyard side, there is a stone plinth that supports 25 by 3 cells of small framing, featuring angle braces on the left and right sides and on every fifth upright, as well as tension braces to the left and to the fifteenth upright from the left. Some of the brick infill panels are tumbled or partially tumbled. The ground floor includes three stable doors and two sets of cart doors on the right. The first floor has four rectangular loft doors.
The right gable end features jowelled corner posts and a 19th-century staircase leading to the first floor. The rear of the barn has a similar pattern of timber framing as the entrance front, and the internal dividing walls are also timber framed.
