Description

White Cottage, originally a tollhouse and now a house, dates from the early 19th century, with 20th-century additions. The white-washed and rendered exterior features black-painted sandstone dressings and a pyramidal Welsh slate roof with a central stone chimney. The building is square in plan, and was originally three storeys high, but is now two storeys over cellars due to the rise in road level. The front facing the road has 20th-century wooden casement windows set within plain stone surrounds, on both storeys, and a doorcase with moulded uprights on the right-hand side. To the sides, there are two semi-circular recesses, each containing windows similar to those on the front, with similar windows above. The cellars, which were originally the ground floor, retain an original fireplace, stone seats, and arched openings.
