Description

Canal Bridge Number 27 is a canal bridge built around 1800 by B. Outram for the Peak Forest Canal Company. It is constructed from coursed, squared sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings. The bridge features a single elliptical arch with rock-faced coping at road level, topped by a plain parapet that extends into four short, curving wing walls, each ending with square pilasters. Canal bridges Numbers 23 and 26 are nearly identical in design.
