Description
Lane Head Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid 17th century, with an early 18th-century extension to the rear and 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of whitewashed and rendered sandstone rubble, topped with a Kerridge stone-slate roof featuring a stone ridge and three brick chimneys. The building has an L-shaped plan and is two stories high with an asymmetrical three-bay front. The windows are two-light horizontal sliding sashes with glazing bars and hammer-dressed sills below, and similar three-light windows with lintels and sills above. To the right, there is a chamfered doorcase with a 20th-century board door. Inside, the layout consists of a two-room plan with a door opening to a baffle of a gable fireplace. The interior features ovolo-moulded beams, with a plain beam over the fireplace that is lit by a window at the rear. The roof truss includes a tie-beam over the fireplace, supported by two diagonal struts above. The rear extension contains chamfered beams.
