Description
Spencer Hall is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations and an added wing from 1898. It is constructed of rendered sandstone rubble and features a Kerridge stone-slate roof, stone ridge, and two rendered gable chimneys. The house is designed as a two-unit gable entry structure, standing two stories tall with a three-bay south front. The windows have all been altered and consist of three-light chamfered stone mullions, although only one original mullion remains. A central doorway was added in 1898, while the original doorway is now blocked. There is a fire window with glazing bars in the right gable and a similar fire window at the rear. The late Victorian wing facing the road is believed to replace an original part of the house. Inside, there is a Heck post and screen, along with a beam over the fireplace, all of which are chamfered. The original stone fire surround is concealed and contains a 20th-century electric fire. The roof features very rough purlins, with one being forked.
