Description
Lower Greenshall is a house dated 1666, with 19th-century alterations. It is built from coursed sandstone rubble and has a Kerridge stone-slate roof with a brick chimney. The structure is a rectangular, two-unit cottage featuring a gable entrance and has a two-storey, two-bay front. The windows are a mix of 18th-century wooden casements, including two and three-light designs, with one window having a partially surviving hood mould. A tablet between the upper storey windows reads "L:L W:M:R, 1666." The plain wooden door frame is located in the right gable, and there is a casement that enlarges the original fire window.
Inside, the door opens into a living room that retains a surviving heck. There is a 20th-century fireplace that follows the outline of the original stack. The interior features chamfered beams with flat and tongue stops. A partition wall appears to be timber-framed, and traces of an upper cruck on a tie beam are exposed in the upper storey.
To the east, there is a 19th-century bungalow made of brick and stone with a Welsh slate roof, which is not of special interest.
