Basin End

Basin End is a former canal worker's cottage, now a holiday cottage, dating from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick in English Bond and features a slate roof. It has two bays and two storeys, with a single-storey lean-to on the south side. The centre bay is slightly set forward and includes a semi-circular arched opening with a 20th-century flush door. The ground floor has horizontal sliding sash windows, while the upper floor has flush casement windows, all featuring glazing bars and small panes. The windows are set beneath stone sills and segmental arches with turning pieces. The gabled centre bay and the main gables display shaped purlin ends, projecting verge courses, and wide soffits. The roof of the lean-to on the south side is covered with corrugated asbestos-cement sheeting, and there is a small lean-to at the rear (west) with horizontal sliding sashes in the rear gable. The interior is not of special interest.
