Description
Nantwich Junction Bridge, also known as Bridge Number 92, is a tow path roving bridge on the Shropshire Union Canal, built around 1826, with consultant Thomas Telford involved in its design. The bridge is constructed from engineering bricks in English Bond, featuring a thin protective coating. It has an elliptical skew arch supported by one metre high abutments, with flush stone dressed arch quoins and projecting carriageway bands. The canal is edged with stone, and there are cast iron rubbing posts at the angles of the arch. The tow path beneath the bridge is paved with blue bricks, arranged in raised courses. The bridge has a humped profile, with splayed approach walls, rounded stone parapet copings, and four-way rounded pier caps.
